Yesterday’s embarassments become today’s achievments

I want to start todays entry with something a little positive before I talk about some not so nice things.

What a beautiful morning!

Yes! It is in fact morning.  That is in fact the moon over the gym. It was such a nice picture to drive up to as I pulled into the parking lot at 6am.

Yesterday I finished off my planned meals with,

a melange of fruit, strawberries blueberries and grapes.

For dinner I was excited for.  I was trying out my own version of spice blend to make,

Chili! Topped with some greek yogurt, so good!

Sadly however between snack and dinner my eating and planned meals only turn a turn, and it was a turn for the worst. Some one had made these,

Multi grain rice krispies, honey and PB.

I had also chowed on some cookies.  You know the kind that come in a square tin and are given out as gifts.  No pictures of those.  Also there are no pictures of the messy binge I went on while putting together my snack, lunch, snack and dinner for Wednesday.  I had 2 small bowls (ice cream ‘bowl’) of granola with coconut, pumpkin seed, chia seeds agave nectar and almond butter.  After that my craving, because that is what it was a craving not hunger, I then had a bowl of corn flakes with 1/2 banana and honey, then, I had a bowl of kashi cereal with pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and sunflower seeds.  Ugh, Carb-Overload!  I paid for it too.  I felt so bloated and disgusting from having eaten so much and in such a small amount of time.

Total calories eaten – too many to count.

Total calories burned – 525.

Total water drank - 7, 8oz classes of water.

From all that however, comes today.  Today I have set 4 goals for myself.  Here they are,

Goals

1) No late night snacking

2) Go for 5.3k run after getting home from work tonight (8:30pm)

3) Stay positive re: work & my progress

4) Stay below calorie count

I feel all of these goals are very attainable.  Number 1 will be especially easy to attain as long as I follow through with goal 2.

I am however quite excited to go for a run tonight, as I have added 1 whole KM to my run route.  So this should be an easy goal achieving day.

For breakfast before heading to the gym for the scheduled muscle moves class at 6:10am I had,

Rasin, pumpkin seed breakfast cookie with greek yogurt

Sadly muscle moves was cancelled as Allison wasn’t feeling well this morning and called in sick.  Really when the class is at 6:10 and the gym doesn’t open until 6am, I understand why no-one else was called in to sub for Allison.

This worked out well anyway, because, I am a creature of habit.  I just assumed my gym shoes were on the top of my gym bag as they always as every morning. Well last night I put my gym shoes beside the bag, not on the top of the bag.  I showed up to the gym with no gym shoes, just my black flats that I was wearing lol.  A blessing in disguise. However, this meant I couldn’t do any kind of work out on the floor either in lue of muscle moves.

I had brought my swimsuit because I was planning on going for a swim after muscle moves anyways.  Swimming doesn’t start until 6:30am, so I killed some time by sitting in the sauna until the pool opened.

In the pool I worked on many of the techniques that Heather had taught me last Thursday.  I ended up spending 53 minutes in the pool.  Not too shabby.

At work today I have several meetings out of the office which worried me for staying on track with my eating (eating at regular times and intervals).  So far my morning meeting went well and I was back at the office by 10:15am to have my morning snack (wow it had been 5 hours already since I’d eaten last).

1cup Astro no fat Yogurt 1/3cup All Bran Buds and 1tbsp Crasins

All mixed together and left sitting for 5 minutes before eaten.

So far at the gym I have,

Burned 558 calories.

Drank 4, 8oz glasses of water.

trapped behind my desk away from all sunlight

It’s so sad to be in my office.  I try to spruce it up with my vanilla scented air freshner, my own tunes playing, and even opened the blinds to the window (don’t get excited) between my office and my bosses, so that I could get some natural light coming in from his office.

See my daylight shining through the boss' office over to mine

Sadly none of these work.  My office is dark and gloomy :(   What are ya gonna do?!?! Though I would have rather stayed in bed this morning, and I almost did, I got up for 5am to head to the gym.  Breakfast

Green Monster - 2cups Kale, 1cup almond milk, 6 strawberries, 1/2cup pineapple 1/2cup mango and 1 tsp ground flax

I headed off to spin class.  It was a bittersweet class. Allison the instructor won’t be doing our spin class or muscle moves class in the mornings anymore.  This is because Mon&Wed at 5:30 she is doing a fitness boot camp and Tues&Thurs she is teaching a kickboxing boot camp.  So instead of doing a normal spin class, we did some 1 – 2 minute drills.  Lots of strength training this way.

 Mid-morning snack

mini raisin pumpkin seed breakfast cookie

I just made a regular breakfast cookie and split the final product into 2 small Tupperware containers and threw them in the freezer.  This way I have 2 snacks ready to go.  This was delish! Just missed the yogurt topping. Lunch, with my food diary, I realized that I had not packed enough food to sustain me through the day, so I would need to hit up the grocery store.

That's right I bought a .22cent banana with a 20-dollar bill lol

I also had this salad packed.

2cups romaine lettuce, 1cup sprouts, 10 cherry tomatoes, 1/4 avocado, 1 celery stalk 2 oz chicken breast and homemade balsamic

Well only a little bit of time left here at the full-time job, until its off to the races and off to the part-time evening job.  Enjoy the great weather we are having in Southern Ontario today!

Giving it another go!

Well I am back again today starting my blog off with my WordPress blog.  After the mess of pictures that was yesterdays failed attempt, I was left feeling frustrated and irritated.  However last night when I was blogging with my original blog, I ran into formatting problems.  I realized that had that been my 4th or 5th blog entry, I would not have known how to fix it, and would have had to keep on giving it the ‘ol college try and figure it out myself.  So this gave me the kick in the pants I needed to not completely give up on this blog site, and to keep trying to navigate around.  p.s. I hope to get some mega help tonight at work after 7 from one of my coworkers.

Last night was a busy one and I will rewind a little further back.  While taking a 10 min break from my desk yesterday afternoon, I realized I needed to make a weekly meal plan.  This way I could make sure I was getting enough variety as well as all my food groups within the week.  I also thought too that this would help me to see if I was eating enough or not before hand and be able to plan better (when you work 2 jobs through the week planning in paramount).

So I started in on a weekly menu.  This was pretty easy as I have lots of meal ideas, however I then realized that I had a lot of holes when it came to ingredients for these meals.  Gotta go get more groceries. Sometimes it sucks having to go to the grocery store 3-4 times a week because you area always buying fresh items that get used up so quickly. But my body thanks me for it.

So after work with my grocery list in hand, with the grocery list sitting on my desk forgotten, I met Kevin at the grocery store (he came because the reusable eco-friendly grocery bags were at home, it just saved me a trip).

Back at home I set out to make dinner.  Sadly I had a meeting back at the day job office for 7pm, but needed to be there to see people in by 6:30.  Despite not going to the gym this evening (because of the meeting), I thought I wouldn’t be rushed, I was wrong.

Tofu cooking in Soy Ginger Dressingbell peppers, mushrooms, bok choi, carrots and onion

bell peppers, mushrooms, bok choi, carrots and onion

lots of veggies (a little too much actually) topped with Tofu

So after dinner I was off running again.  Thankfully, (though erksom that I drove 20mins to work and another back) the meeting was 15 minutes.  I was back home with plenty of time to make some meals for the coming workbonanza that lay ahead.  I made a big pot of chili for Kevin and I to eat, I packed up the last serving of my couscous dish, cooked some chicken breast for my chicken salad, and then threw together a breakfast cookie (split into 2 servings instead of 1 to act as a snack). Whoah! :S so much work in so little time.

Kevin and I vegged out on the couch watching The Big Bang Theory, and I caught up on some of the blogs I follow.

By 10pm I was a zombie.  I went upstairs and packed my gym back and set my alarm for 4:50am.

Total water drank Monday (not enough) 6, 8oz glasses of water.

Total calories burned (with my run), 525.

Total calories eaten (not counting tasting for quality assurance while cooking), 1,441.

Little words for Sunday

I’ve got a lot of pictures for Sunday.  And really they are pretty self explanitory, so I’m going to keep the words to a minimum. Enjoy!

Breakfast

Raisin Sunflower seed Breakfast Cookie topped with 1/4 serving of Liberte Greek Yogurt

I klept seeing this spider, and Kevin was never around I sprayed him off the wall with some Shout (it was the handiest thing). Trapped him under a cup and secured it there with the shout bottle. Now Kevin can flush him when he gets home.

Remember I had no car this weekend due to the dealerships mix up on what time they are open to (5, not 6 like they told me). So I am borrowing my parents car to drive to Peterborough to go Rock Climbing.  I told them I would walk to their house to get some extra exercise in (2.05k) with lots of steady inclines.

Got lunches for Kevin and I packed.

And I have now reached a point where i have become frustrated using wordpress blogging this blog.  I am quitting this entry here and completing it at my other blog. www.mirandasjeans.blogspot.com

So much, I don’t know where to start.

Well I know where I will start.  I will start by ending my day Friday.

Friday I went to a meeting at work.  At this meeting I was expecting to hear what departments would be effected by the budget cuts as a result of the gov’t lack of funding.  Well we went, and all they told us was that 7 mgmt, and 24 employees would be let go.  Of those 7 mgmt, 2 had already left or were in the process of leaving and of th 24 staff 2 are in the same position as the 2 mgmt personnel.  Great.  Even when they were asked specific questions the E.D or supervisor of HR would dance around the question never answering (even when asked what they are doing to support their staff through this stressful time – hey had these gobsmacked looks on their faces). The only other piece of information that was relevent to what I was looking for was that layoffs wouldn’t start until April 19th.  Ugh!  So pissed.  I actually left that meeting feeling sick to my stomach and when I called Kevin on my phone bluetooth, I started to cry.  I let him go though as talking on the phone, crying & driving don’t mix well.

Before the meeting I had:

Spaghetti Squash with lots of veggies and 1/4 cup of tomato sauce

After work I wanted to eat a snack as I hadn’t eaten since lunch and I was going out for dinner with my girlfriends.  I didn’t want to be super hungry at the restaurant for 2 reasons.  1. I didn’t want to be ravenously hungry with so much rich food available and 2. this way I wouldn’t be buying an appetizer.

Snacking

Once at the restaurant I ordered a drink, and a strong one at that.  For many reasons.  As I said above, the whole layoff drama and also because my car is in at the dealership getting it’s oil changed so Kevin drove me and would be picking me up ( I dropped it off on my way home from work, the service guy told me they were busy Saturday and I might not get my car till later in the day. I told him this was ok as I was going to be out of down for the afternoon.  He told me that Service Dept closed at 4pm, but the dealership was open until 6pm.  I told him this worked well for me. He told me make sure I got there before they closed at 6pm Saturday as they are not open Sunday then I wouldn’t be able to get my car ’till Monday morning.  Yup sounds good to me).

Our Drinks - I had two pomtini's

For dinner I had

Sundried Tomatoes and Asparagus Stuffed chicken - Sub potato for house salad

 No Dessert for us . . . . . .  Here.

We didn’t get the best service at this restaurant.  i.e When Michelle, sitting beside me, asked or waiter who had finally returned for a glass of water I was about to ask for another Pomtini (which was sitting empty at the edge of the table), I breathed in to speak, and our waiter turned away saying (as he walked away) I’ll grab 3 waters.  I obviously asked for my Pomtini when he brough us all back water.  He was M.I.A throughout the whole meal, all the while the other waiter in our section was doing the stereotypical you’re family while eating at our Italian restaurant chatty shtick.

So . . . . Off to . . . .Heaven!

Demetre's

Whatever last time I was at Demetre’s I had just started to blog.  This is my favourite way to treat myself.  And I always get myself the same thing.  I have this affinity to Peanut Butter Ice Cream

.

Life Sentence - I didn't eat the whipped cream

And

Made with Skim Milk and no whipped cream topping

It was all so so tasty.  I can’t wait for my next trip there.

Saturday morning, was great.  I got to sleep in, and didn’t get out of bed until 8:45.  Big plans for today.  Off to the Yoga Conference at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, pick up my car from getting it’s oil changed, then head off to Peterborough (where Kevin is playing road hockey – Canadian).  So I wanted to start the day off strong.

Strawberry Banana (spinach) Green Monster, Grapefruit and 1 Date

Very filling.  Kevin left to go play hockey at 10am.  I started to make my meals for tomorrow (what is this the weekday).  I wanted to be able to still eat a healthy breakfast snacks and lunch tomorrow though I would be away from home.  Hey it’s not like I couldn’t keep the food in the fridge in Peterborough. My parents came and picked me up to take me to my girlfriends house so we could go to the yoga conference.  Once at my girlfriends, we were off.  It was nice.  We laughed at stories from dinner last night and were looking forwards to our adventures that lay ahead of us today.  We weren’t even on the highway when Honda called me saying that my car was ready and could be picked up. I told them I was out-of-town and would be back to pick it up later this afternoon before closing at 6.  They said ok.

Once we got parking, which surprisingly wasn’t hard to find an open lot at 1:00pm on a Saturday or overly expensive (only 10$), we walked down the St. to Fresh.

I ate one half of the wrap and then switched with my girlfriend.  She ate the other half while I ate the other half of her mushroom ‘burger’.

Fruity Greens (the drink), Magic Tofu Wrap, Sweet Potato Soup

We both loved what we shared and are excited for the next chance we get to go back to Fresh.  MJ joked with her husband that she was eating a grass burger.  He took a picture on his Iphone and sent it to her.  It was a picture of our brown dead looking Canadian grass. LOL.

Off to the Yoga conference.  We walked in to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from the North Side of the building.  To get to the south end, we walked 5 minutes, took two escalators going up, to walk another 5 minutes to ride 3 escalators down to get to C-hall.  There was a big open space in the middle where there was 40 people doing various forms of yoga based on the instructor who was up there.  Sadly no picture of that.

I was anxious to get myself a yoga bag.  I’ve had my yoga mat for just over  a year now, and it’s just awkward to tote around without it’s own bag.  There were all kinds to choose from, but non that jumped out and spoke to me, and not for the prices that people were asking (42$).  Then I saw it,

So pretty, will look great with my bright orange yoga mat

Pretty detailing

I also picked up two dresses from a lady that runs a consignment store in Peterborough.  She was so nice but absolutely hilarious!  It was as if she took 2 hits of speed right before we came up to her.  She was moving and talking a mile a minute.  Whatever she made a sale, two off me.  I will try to get Kevin to take some pictures of me in them tomorrow.  I tried tonight and they all turned out blurry, because no flash, from trying to take the picture in the mirror.

We left the Yoga conference at 4:20, giving us lots of time to get back to Bowmanville before the dealership closed at 6pm to get my car.  We made it to the dealership at 5:25. *&%$ #$^& #^*@#!  The gates were closed.  I got out of MJ’s van and walked up to the doors.  LOCKED!  I looked in the windows to see if anyone was in there. Negative. I found the sign with the store hours. . . . . Closed at 5! &#^$%*#$^#$*&#!

MJ dropped me off at home and I immediately called the dealership to leave an angry message for them.  I let them know how inconvenienced I am now because of their incompetent staff who do not know their own store hours.  That I was left without a vehicle for the rest of the weekend as a result of this and my husband was out-of-town with his car.  That I left a conference in Toronto early to get back in time to get my car to find it was close and I was misinformed.  That I would be late for work Monday morning as a result of this misinformation.  That I would be waiting at their doors first thing Monday morning to speak with their manager. I left my phone number at home and cell, telling them however they wouldn’t need it as I would be there at opening. *Grrrrrrr* So I called Kevin and let him know I would not be driving up to meet him in Peterborough for the night as a result of this.  I told him I would call my parents and see if I could borrow their car (they live 2km’s away) to drive up and we could still go rock climbing.  I called my parents, talked to my mom (who I have a great relationship with), told her about the situation.  She chuckled at me, telling me I could borrow their car.

I then grabbed some dinner.  Nothing special, just some more left overs,

Couscous, Tomoato, Chickpea and Edamame

So I am home alone tonight.  I was going to go for a run, however it’s 9:55 now, and I think it might be a smidgen late for that.  Maybe early tomorrow morning.

So far,

Total water drunk, 4, 8oz glasses .

Total calories burned, 406 (walking around Toronto).

Total calories eaten, 1,864 (over by 78).

TGIF

I am so excited that today is Friday.  I have a busy jam pack weekend, but it is not because of work, it is because I am doing a bunch of things I want to do. Let’s see what the run down looks like:

Friday: Dinner at Fazio’s in Oshawa with girlfriends from work

 Saturday: 10am – 11:30 Hot Yoga

                                     after 11:30 Yoga Conference

Before or after Yoga show late lunch early dinner at Fresh

After fun times in Toronto, I get to pick up my car from getting  a tune up, to drive to Peterborough, to visit with Kevin’s cousin.

 Sunday: Rock Climbing in PTBO

Dinner at The Old Stone in PTBO to celebrate Kevin’s cousin’s Bday.

Whoah!  Yeah that is a lot for one weekend lol.

So last night I got home and had already made my dinner the night before.  It just needed reheating.  Gotta love that kind of ease.

Couscous w/ chickpeas, tomatoes and edamame

After dinner I had an 8pm apt at the local pool with a lady named Heather.  I have never met Heather before, rather got her name and contact information from my hot yoga instructor.  Jana from hot yoga said that Heather could be very helpful for me to meet up with, with regards to my Try-A-Tri training.  I got a hold of Heather and asked for help with my swimming.  I wanted to be more efficient and gain more technique with my swimming.

Well!  Wow what a great workout.  Initially I was quite nervous as Heather sounds very hard-core with her credentials and speaking with her.  But wow what a great teacher.  I made a lot of progress.  For those of you who know about swimming, she had me swim one length as I normally would.  She counted my strokes.  27.  Through learning how to make my body more efficient and used stronger better strokes, after 1 hour I was down to 16 strokes.  I still have a lot of work to do with swimming, but now I feel like I have some direction to move towards as opposed to just banging out 10 laps of the pool.  Plus I burned 400 calories doing it! HAHA.

Total water drank Thursday, 7, 8oz glasses of water

 Total calories eaten aprox 1,685.

Total calories burned yesterday working out, 420.

For breakfast Friday morning, I was excited to have some O.J.  It has been a while since I’ve had O.J.  So last night I went to bed before Kevin did.  I asked him to take out some O.J. from the freezer and let it thaw and I would make it in the am.  Well sadly he forgot.  So no O.J. with my breakfast today.

Rasin & Sunflower seed Breakfast cookie with Blackberry yogurt

Put my yogurt on the breakfast cookie

This was a great filling breakfast to have before running off to the gym for Cardio Bosu class.  We are working on doing circuit right now.  I love them.  I feel like I work my whole body, work my whole body.Doing burpies, lumberjack lifts, side plank twist & more that I don’t know the name of.  After bosu class, I went into the pool.  I tried to work on all the techniques that I learned last night from Heather.  Not all at once, but one at a time.  Man I need more practice and need to think about what I am doing more.  Oh well lots of time.

Sadly the shower was freezing cold.  I was fed up.  I toweled off and threw back on my dirty gym clothes and headed home.  10 min drives are way longer 1)when its not 5:45am and 2) when the rest of the world is up driving around following the speed limits, lol.

No matter I made it to work on time.

At work I grabbed my snack first thing.  My stomach was grumbling.  Remember I ate breakfast at 5:10am.  Now I’m at the office at 8:30.  Its snack time!

175g Greek yogurt, 1/4cup pumpkin, 7 walnut halves, 20g raisins 1/4 cup oasts and 30g of granola seasoned with cinnamon

So Yummy and filling.  I haven’t felt anxious about lunch hour coming around today.  Though this is so many more calories than I am used to eating for mid morning snack however.  Normally I aim for 150-200.  This one ws 363.  Guess that is why I feel so full.

So far I’ve had 4, 8oz glasses of water.
Total calories burned at the gym this morning 587.
Excited for the evening to come!

Expoloring new bloggin

Well this is though my second entry today, but really my first one posting how I normally would at my other blog.

Today I am really struggling.  Yesterday I worked out fairly hard compared to my workout routine the week before.  Tonight I have a training session with someone I have never met before for swimming.  This is a one time thing for right now, just to see if she can give me any advice on my technique when it comes to swimming.  I am nervous, scared and don’t want to go. LOL.  I will of course go, but I am having an internal fight with myself (as I am sore in the legs but and chest from the workout yesterday). Oh well!  Work through the burn right?!

As for my meals today, well this is the last installment of a green monster with beets for a little while.  I used my last beet in todays breakfast.

Strawberry Banana Green Monster

This green monster had 3 cups of organic baby spinach, 1 tsp ground flax, 5 big strawberries, 1 banana, 1 beet and 1 cup of Earths Own almond milk.

When I got to work I was sad to realize that I had forgotten to bring my breakfast cookie which I was intending on bringing for a mid morning snack.  That was alright, because that snack was planned when I was going to spin class this morning.  However when my alarm went off my legs were crazy sore, so I opted to stay in bed and get more sleep.  I did not however get more sleep as I tossed and turned  trying to sleep as I was worried I would sleep in and be late for work.

Anyway for mid morning snack;

5 Minute No Bake Granola Bar

Lunch I was excited for.  I had never tried anything like it before, and had my fingers crossed that it would be tasty.

I had two of these. Dempsters Ancient Grain wraps, (total) 3 florets of cauliflower finely chopped up, 3 mushroom chopped up. 1/2 cup of English Cucumber, 4 leaves of spinach, 1 whole Kumata tomato, and 5 romaine lettuce leaves with 1 tbsp (between the two wraps) of roasted garlic hummus.  It turned out so good!  SOOOOO GOOD!

I was supposed to have a side with my lunch however I was not hungry for it at the time. So I was saving it for later while I got back to work, which included cleaning off my desk, sanitizing it with a Clorox bleach cloth and putting the piles of paper away where they should have been put in the first place.

Mid day snack, well last night on my way home from work, I stopped at the Lawblaws Supercentre and there they had. . . . Gooseberries.  Couldn’t pass those up.

4 Med sized strawberries, 6 gooseberries and 1/2 cup of red grapes

I also had a meeting out in the community.  So once that was done I headed to the feel good natural health store.  I still had been searching for some Agave Nectar and some Brown Rice Syrup, so I thought might as well stop in and see what they have if anything.  Well luck be a lady today!  They had both.  I also picked up a granola bar to tie me over as my stomach was growling.

It was tasty, but too sticky for my personal liking.

Well sadly today I have only had 2, 8oz glasses of water so far.  I really need to get to drinking more water before this day is out.

Ciao!
